The Art & Science of

Light

The Artful Glow and Therapeutic Impact of Light

Dermatology straddles the worlds of science and art and is heavily influenced by how light interacts with skin. UV light can be damaging in a high prolonged dose or productive in relation to creating vitamin D3 through the skin. UVB is even used in a controlled fashion through phototherapy to treat psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo and other inflammatory disorders.  And I respect the concept of seasonal affective disorder and the impact of minimal light on our well-being. So in order to preserve healthy skin, I encourage patients to pay attention to light within their environment. But I do love to play with light and its highlighting of skin, nature and forms in my photography.
